Windsurfing Sunglasses Made For Bad Weather

Windsurfing Sunglasses Made For Bad Weather

Have you ever windsurfed in the pouring rain or a hailstorm? Many hardcore windsurfers do it all the time to enjoy the heavy winds that usually accompany bad weather.  Some of windsurfing’s most memorable days can be those during the cold of winter.

Besides the frozen fingers that you can try to keep warm with neoprene gloves, a pair of good windsurfing sunglasses goes a long way to keep you eyes protected from the pelting rain and the beating hail that at high speeds during windsurfing can sting like mad and can cause eye damage.

High winds and big waves makes for great windsurfing.

High winds and big waves makes for great windsurfing.

Rather than closing your eyes while windsurfing in these conditions, we choose to sport a pair of water-repelling sports sunglasses like our Fiji and Maui watersports models with lightly tinted lens and impact protection.  Meanwhile for sunnier and warrmer conditions, nothing beats our favorite Mentawai model, boasting good looks and a darker lens.

OCEAN is proud to be a sponsor of the extreme sports production company Adventure Imagery, supplying their athletes and cameramen with our rugged sports sunglasses. Shooting extreme sports stock footage in some of the most remote and dangerous locations around the world, they can expect high performance out of their outdoor eyewear while not sacrificing any performance of their own.

Shooting extreme skiing footage on high mountain peaks in Alaska, big wave surfing in Northern California, world record freediving deep off the coast of Turkey, kitesurfing and windsurfing in Spain, they put our sunglasses through severe conditions and we are happy to report that they perform as hard as the Adventure Imagery team does.

“After many years abusing and losing my sunglasses, now I use the OCEAN sports sunglasses that have a strap on the back that tightens around my head so that when I am leaning out of a helicopter or shooting from a fast boat alongside a windsurfer, I can concentrate on the action and not on my glasses.  They even stay on while skydiving,” reports Justin Wheeler, on-location producer for AdventureImagery.com. “We also shoot with polarized filters on the lenses which makes the clouds really defined and the colors very vibrant, so it is nice to find durable sunglasses that are also polarized so I can enjoy the view while not shooting.”
